Summary: I'm too young to remember the TV show.
A very campy spy drama similar to James Bond films, starring Ralph Fiennes as John Steed, and Uma Thurman as Emma Peel. A lot of the appeal is Uma in a catsuit but she's not as young as she used to be and the makeup job is not very flattering. The plot is extremely lame, and doesn't make a whole lot of sense; the bad guys should've just shot the good guys, not invite them into the lair. The special effects are nice, and you get to see some of London's landmarks get abused. But, there's not enough of those really to make this movie stand out above others. |

Summary: urmmmmm not quite
Fiennes, I thought, was a good John Steed (if rather unlike the original). Uma was awful as Emma Peel. No no bad. And let's not talk about Connery's villain. What the heck was up with this movie? The cast SHOULD have rocked -- apparently they all needed the money so came on board for a turkey script. Still, it has a certain slickness. Not enough to make it good. If you saw the TV series and liked it, lower my grade a half-notch or so, because of the "I'm offended" level (I did, and was). |

Summary: Peeeeee-ew | |
This was widely considered one of the worst movies of the year, and for good reason - it sucked rocks. Ralph Fiennes turns in a bizarre uncompelling performance as John Steed, and Uma Thurman plays a vacuuous, vaguely anorexic Emma Peel. Add Sean Connery as an over-the-top bad guy and throw a weird science-fictiony script after the whole thing, and what do you get? Two hours of your life that you could spend washing the toilet. |
