Summary: Really good, better than watching the video game.
An exciting movie based on the video game, much like Street Fighter was. The sets are more extravagant here. The special effects are mostly done with SGI's, and are quite impressive in places. The martial arts is very good, with lots of very clever moves. The story wasn't so great... who cares about this guy and his brother and some wacky destiny. The audience really got into the film, cheering each time a recognizable character appeared on the screen. The best part of the whole thing was the soundtrack was done with high bpm techno music, which should be a great CD.

Summary: MOOOOOOOOOORTAL KOOOOOOOOMBAT
It helped that at the beginning of this film, when the screen is black and someone is screaming "MORTAL KOMBAT", some joker in the front row leapt out of his seat and shook his fists at the sky. It really helped set the tone for what was to come, which was 90 minutes of ass-kicking. At one point there may have been a 5 minute stretch in which no one was getting their ass kicked, which would be a good time to go to the bathroom. Mindless but loud, thoughtless but fun. Plus that Lu Kang guy is a hotty.
