Summary: Not worthy of the hype.
Nicolas Cage plays a private investigator who is chosen by the dead governor's widow to determine if an 8mm film found in his safe is real or faked. The film shows a young girl being killed. The movie then slowly drags us through the world of porn, hardcore porn, semi-illegal porn, and finally the loweliest scum in the business, the murderers themselves. Throughout the film you feel like the director is trying to make a "point" of some sort, like "porn is bad" perhaps, but the whole thing is so over-the-top it gets lost in the mess. Overall I can only say it wasn't very pleasant. |

Summary: some characters in this movie are really fucked up
Nicholas Cage investigates the making of a snuff film and through dogged persistence and a kind scriptwriter, manages to track down everyone involved, make a tortured Nick-Cage-in-soul-agony face at them, ask them "WHY??!!" and then kill them. Why did they make the snuff film? Because 1) they got paid to do it, 2) they enjoyed doing it, and 3) just because they could. Deep, huh? Also everyone involved with BDSM in the movie was portrayed as sad, sick losers which we know is not true, right? |

Summary: Umm, wha? | |
Ok, call me perverse, but this movie is about Nick Cage being disgusted about vanilla sex acts, and truly disturbed by minor S&M, and scarred for life over fake snuff films, and then add the holy grail of perversity, the REAL LIVE SNUFF FILM WHERE A GIRL REALLY DIES, and ... and why bother? This movie tries to say 'kinky sex is bad because if you have kinky sex you'll end up wanting to watch videos of girls getting raped and killed', and that's just bogus. |
