Summary: Great sets but inconsistent storyline
The sets and graphics were simply amazing. I just wish the storyline could have been a little better. The whole thing smacks of the absurd. A planet that goes from -300 to 700 degrees night to day, makes this transition in five minutes! What? Oh, and the actors can outrun sunrise on foot! What? And while it's 700 degrees and burning people in sunlight, the temperature is fine, just fine, just around the corner in the shade! What? Give me a break, the screenwriters were idiots. The first movie (Pitch Black) was a LOT better.

Summary: Beautiful to watch, but kinda ehh
Surprisingly, not as bad as I thought it'd be. I watched Pitch Black but wasn't terribly enamored with it. I held off on Riddick since I figured it’d be more of the same. I was wrong. Riddick had some great visuals (I love some of the Necromonger armor with the drama-like masks on it) but the story of course was lacking. I watched it with someone that hadn’t seen Pitch Black yet, so they thought they lost with regards to the storyline in Riddick, but that isn’t really the case. You can watch Chronicles of Riddick without having seen Pitch Black and not really lose much. I felt that a lot more explaining had to be added about the Necromongers in general. Their culture was only given one identifying basis “Obedience without question. Loyalty til underverse come.” Which, while the mantra does give a good understanding of their faith, I think they should have shown us or developed the culture a bit more. It looked like it could be rich with interesting things.
