Summary: Slightly amusing feel-good story.
With an all-star cast like this, you can't really go wrong, because it feels good just to see all these great actors perform together. So it's a fun movie, with some funny bits, that's certainly worth seeing.
On the negative side, the science, the physics, the acting in zero gravity, and other parts suffer greatly. I always wonder how 2001, made 30 years ago, is often ten times greater than sci-fi films that come out today. My only guess is that Eastwood was directing this for the fun of it, and chose not to take the science all that seriously. So, ignore the science, and treat the movie as a comedy, and you'll do fine. |

Summary: old men kick ass and show ass
While the end is utterly ridiculous, everything leading up to that moment is a triumph of humorous light drama. All the important issues about male aging--flabby asses, declining vision, hair loss, and ego--are used to good effect. Everyone loves Clint Eastwood. If you don't, you must be a Commie. |
