Summary: Not the best Bond film.
Pierce Brosnan actually delivered a more intriquing performance in "The Thomas Crown Affair". Fortunately this Bond film had the usual action, special effects, nifty gadgets, and Desmond Llewelyn's last performance as Q (he died in an unfortunate car accident shortly afterward). So, these make up for the lousy plot and horrible acting by the female lead, Denise Richards. The script was likewise atrocious in places, with radioactive/nonradioactive metals playing a confusing role in too much of the script. |

Summary: Judi Dench rules
The best moment in this film for me is a spoiler. When Bond kills a certain bad person, M is a witness, and the camera cuts to her for a reaction, and you see for a moment how big a difference an actress like Dench can make to a film. Her reaction takes all the silliness of Bond and mates it with the violence and death. OK I'm overreacting but I liked it. Christmas Jones? A realdoll would have done a better job. |
