Stargate A- 11/3 7:50pm Secaucus This is an entertaining action/adventure about a gateway that is discovered in the sands of the desert of Egypt and is brought to a US lab for study by the government. A genius is brought in to decipher the codes on the gateway, and he does, and this opens the gate. This leads to another world where nobody speaks english, which slows the plot down for a long time, and you almost lose interest in the movie, until they find a way to communicate and it gets exciting again. Good pacing and direction otherwise. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein B 11/4 10pm Paramus This is a Kenneth Branagh film that doesn't live up to the power of his previous films. The monster wanders around and doesn't make sense most of the time. The special effects are gory and uncomfortable to look at. However, the costumes are incredible, and the sets are very realistic, with much attention paid to historical detail. The Road to Wellville B- 11/5 7:50pm Murray Hill A gross tale about a sanitorium where people are taught to avoid sex and instead have several enemas a day. It's funny in many places, and stars Matthew Broderick and Dana Carvey, but it's painful in other places, and doesn't add up to a success. It's an uncomfortable sort of comedy. Double Dragon B 11/6 8:30pm Secaucus Right on the heels of Super Mario Brothers, this is a fun martial-arts movie starring unknowns, 'cept for the bad guy. He has reall cool haircut tho'. Nothing outstanding, but fun nonetheless. Interview with the Vampire A 11/24 10:00pm Secaucus An exciting and interesting movie about Vampire Lestat as told by his right-hand man. Tom Cruise does a good job as Lestat. There's humor and action, a good mix of both, and great sets and costumes. It's a bit of a sad movie in places, however. Star Trek Generations A- 11/26 9:30pm Newport News, VA Kirk and Picard, how can you go wrong? Plus the usual great special effects, some scenes of the Enterprise 1701-B, Guinan in both acts, and a decent transition from the old crew to the new generation. Frankly though, I wasn't pleased with the death of Kirk, I thought it was added in obligatorially, and I was sad to see the 1701-D take such a dive, although this means the next movie can have an even slicker-looking 1701-E. The bad guy was one of the best since Khan.
