The Specialist B+ 10/7 8pm Secaucus Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone star in this "steamy" drama about a woman who hires a bomb specialist to blow up the people who killed her parents twenty years ago. The people she's trying to kill, however, are major bad guys themselves, mafia or something. The movies filled with explosions, but the acting is not quite excellent. Xibeth thought Stone was really fat, and should have used thighmaster before making the film... Quiz Show B- 10/8 10:30pm Hackensack This is a true story (yawn) about a game show that was rigged so that the popular contestant would win. The audience was deceived into believing this guy really knew all the answers. Of course, they're watching game show TV, they deserve it. It's kinda neat because it's historical, set in the 60's, with recycle mugs and all that, but it's not all that fascinating really. Pulp Fiction A- 10/14 9:40pm Secaucus John Travolta is the hit man. Bruce Willis is the boxer. This is the violent tale of a boxer who refused to take a fall and pissed off the crook who paid him to fall, and the hit men who have to go after him. It's also story about the hit men themselves. The story isn't very important, it's the characterization. The movie is rather bloody and violent in places, but the pacing and absurdity of it all just makes it fun to watch. Ed Wood C 10/15 7pm Secaucus This is the true story (yawn) of the worst director of all time, and how he made his mark in Hollywood. Johnny Depp does a good job portraying Wood, but the movie is sad and pathetic, just as are the movies Ed Wood makes, particularly Plan 9 From Outer Space. The Puppet Masters A- 10/21 8pm Secaucus Aliens have landed in the midwest, vampiric aliens that attach themselves to the brain and spinal cord of their victims. They spread rapidly, like a virus, and they hide under clothes and infiltrate all parts of society, so it's a mad race to catch them all. Plus the characters are very entertaining, and the story is a Heinlein classic. The Shawshank Redemption A 10/22 9:30pm Times Square Tim Robbins does another excellent job acting in this movie about a man who is sent to a maximum security prison for life. Throughout the years, he refuses to give up hope, for he claims to be innocent, and he wants justice to be served. It's a great film, a great story, and tells interesting tales, which is a feat considering most of the movie takes place in the boring confines of a prison.
