Natural Born Killers B 9/5 9:15pm Starkville, MS Oliver Stone treats us to yet another violent, bloody picture. This film is packed with mindless killing and gore, so much so that it is disgusting. The picture encourages its audience to go out and kill other people. If ever there was a reason to censor films, this would have to be one. There isn't much of a plot; a couple of psychos go on a murder rampage. Near as I can tell, Stone tries to justify their killings because of their fucked-up childhoods, or explaining that some people just "need to be killed". And no, the artsy way he made the picture in cut and paste scenery and effects, sometimes switching to black and white, sometimes doing things in a 50's style sitcom fashion, doesn't make the film worthwhile. This is a film that should never have been made. Timecop A- 9/16 7:45pm Secaucus Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in this techno-thriller movie about a cop whose wife is killed in 1994 just as he is about to join the special time police. Later, in 2004, we see him as a veteran member of the time police, trying to prove the evil senator is the leader of the bad guys. And the required elements of a great movie are all here... sex scene, nude scene, lots of hand-to-hand combat, explosions, fancy toys, gunfights, and so on. Only thing missing is a good soundtrack, but I guess you can't have everything. Fresh C 9/17 9:20 Secaucus This is one of those black films about how life is really rough for black kids on the street. Boy, like we haven't heard that one before! The neat thing about this one is that the star, a boy of 12 or so, is a chess player, and gets involved in a complicated chess game on the street, playing pawns and making sacrifices... kinda neat to watch but not overly fascinating.
