Beverly Hills Cop III A- 6/1 10:30pm Seacaucus Eddie Murphy returns as the mighty Axel Foley, where he is once again drawn from Detroit to LA in search of a killer. Here, much of the action takes place in "Wonderland", a spoof of Disneyland. The Axel F theme is back, but it's not as prominent as before. The action is great, but the sequel isn't as great as the original, mainly because the joke has been done already twice before. Speed A- 6/4 8pm Upper East Side I managed to get to a sneak preview for the first time in years. Keanu Reeves stars as an LAPD supercop who's being hassled by a mad bomber. The main part of the film revolves around a bomb on a bus that will go off if the bus drops below 50 mph. It's a very exciting movie with lots of explosions, but the scripting was a bit weak. True Lies should be better. Renaissance Man A- 6/5 2pm Secaucus A real feel-good movie starring Danny DeVito as a man who falls into unemployment, and the only job he can find is teaching misfits at a local army base. So of course, he teaches them Hamlet. The story is a bit goofy but it flows very well and is highly entertaining. City Slickers 2 D 6/13 8:30pm Secaucus A foolish old man and two retards go exploring the wild west using a treasure man and they fuck everything up and then they don't even find the damn treasure. In the end, they realize they're total fuckups, but happy fuckups. Stupid. Wyatt Earp A 6/24 11pm Times Square This movie starts out great, really great. Another Dances With Wolves. The cinematography and direction is to die for; the acting is superb; the sets and arrangement are excellent. But after about an hour or so, the direction gets away from blowing us away with dramatic scenery, awesome landscapes, and gets more involved with the actual story, which is about Wyatt Earp, his loyal brothers, and their whiny wives. So the follow-through isn't quite there, which means Hudsucker Proxy is still best film of the year. But it's a great movie nonetheless. One more thing: it's over three hours long, so don't drink a lot of pop. The Lion King B 6/26 5:45pm Secaucus This is the 90's version of Bambi. It's a story about a lion who has a son, then gets killed by his evil brother, so the baby lion has to run away and live on his for a while, until he grows up, and comes back to save the other lions (and rest of the kingdom) from the evil lion. Okay, not much of a plot and very predictable. Animation was good, but not as good as Batman Adventures. Having Darth Vader as the voice of daddy lion was an excellent touch. And of course, like any Disney flick, there's lots of lovable co-star characters with great personalities. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be wondering when True Lies starts...
