Tank Girl B+ 4/1 8pm Secaucus This is the a silver screen treatment of the comic book. Almost the comic book come to life, but not quite, as the really difficult special effects scenes are done either with animation or panning shots of the comic book. It's the zany story of a crazy girl and a tank, a smart girl and a jet, kangaroo creatures, and the evil overlord of Water & Power, which passes for "government" in this post-apocalyptic science fantasy. The story's a bit stupid in places, as are the characterizations, but most of it is pretty fun. Outbreak B 4/6 9:30pm Paramus This is a story about a virus that comes out of the african jungle and contaminates people in the US. Unfortunately it's a fast and deadly virus, with no known cure. Actually the government has seen this virus before, but kept it top secret. The movie is about the ethics of such a deadly virus and how to deal with it. It's also a suspenseful drama. But, like most movies with monkeys, it doesn't quite reach excellence. Rob Roy B+ 4/7 10:00pm Paramus Liam Neeson returns to play a scottish hero from the 18th century. It's a sad story about a clan that is slowly killed off as a result of political maneuverings between a couple of dukes. Great acting, costumes, awesome cinematography, and good sword fights. The movie is a bit long, however (over two hours) and much of it is one depressing scene after another. It's not all gloom and doom tho', for our hero remains true through it all. Bad Boys A- 4/9 8:30pm Secaucus This is an exciting, funny, and fast-paced police drama set in Miami. One almost gets the feeling they are paying respects to the great Miami Vice TV series. The story is about two black cops who are protecting a witness and trying to take down a drug lord. Due to some complications, the married cop and the wild bachelor cop have to trade roles because the witness believes they are each other, and they don't want to scare off the witness. It's kind of zany, but absolutely hilarious in places. Great gunfight and car chase scenes, too. Don Juan DiMarco B+ 4/14 10:30pm Secaucus Johnny Depp plays a confused young man who thinks he is Don Juan reborn. He is about to commit suicide because of unrequited love when he is rescued by a veteran psychologist, played by Marlon Brando. Brando tells young Don Juan that he is Don Octavio de Flores, and brings him into counselling for ten days. During this time, we learn of Don Juan's history, as he sees it, which may be a total fantasy, or may be real... depending on who is consulted. It's a story about love and romance, a definite feel-good film that makes an excellent "date" movie. Kiss of Death B 4/23 7:10pm Times Square Nicholas Cage plays the bad guy in this movie about a working man who's managed to escape mafia business by settling down with a family. Unfortunately he gets pulled back in and then everyone wants to use him, the family, the cops, and so on. It's a crime drama with decent characterization, but not excellent. New Jersey Drive D 4/25 9:15pm Secaucus This is a documentary training film that teaches black kids what they should do with their lives: steal cars and die in car chases evading the police. The movie makes the young punks come off as the good guys, as if it was okay to steal cars, and that the white male police officers are the bad guys. After seeing this film, you will never want to park your car in downtown Newark ever again. Top Dog C+ 4/29 10pm Secaucus This is a playful film starring Chuck Norris and a dog as two rough and tumble supercops that are forced to partner together on a case. It's a great movie for people that like watching dogs act as intelligent heroes. Otherwise, it's just a bit corny.
