Rumble in the Bronx A- 3/1/96 6:15pm Jackie Chan stars in this kung fu movie set in the Bronx. The storyline is lame and unbelievable, but the martial arts action more than makes up for it. I simply haven't seen martial arts done this well in a long, long time. Another negative for the film is that some parts are dubbed. But making up for that is a very unique chase scene involving a hovercraft. Overall, the movie is great fun and I recommend it. Muppet Treasure Island B 3/5/96 6:45pm Secaucus Kermit the Frog returns along with the rest of the muppets in an amusing adventure slightly based on the classic tale of Treasure Island. Each of the major muppets plays a role. The only downside to the movie is that it is a musical, and thus you have to deal with characters suddenly bursting into song from time to time. But aside from that it's pretty good. Executive Decision A 3/18/96 7:15pm Secaucus Kurt Russel stars in this suspenseful movie about a commando crew that is chosen to infiltrate a transatlantic jumbo jet in flight, in hopes of defeating the hijackers and the disabling the bomb that is carried on board. Steven Seagal plays the role of the lead commando, but unfortunately this is more of a cameo appearance than anything. It's a pretty exciting and tense film, leading to a dramatic finish. One of the interesting characters is the engineer, who ends up on the plane by mistake, and has to play a critical role in the mission; he reminded me of many computer and military enthusiasts I've known in the past. The Bird Cage B+ 3/22/96 8:45pm Secaucus Robin Williams plays a gay father of a son who has recently gotten engaged and would like his girlfriend's parents to come visit and meet him. The parents are very conservative, however, and probably would not approve of the gay live-in partner, a transvestite and "mother" figure. The movie is a very funny comedy, and highly entertaining.
