Star Wars (Special Edition) A 2/7/1997 7:30pm Secaucus In this high-tech remastering of the science-fantasy classic, we are treated to much better special effects, much improved sound, edited scenes with more monsters, a new scene with Jabba the Hut and Boba Fett in the background, a better view of Mos Eisley, and a few other treats. This finally makes Star Wars worthy of its two sequels. Dante's Peak B 2/9/1997 5:30pm Secaucu Pierce Brosnan stars as a government geologist who studies volcanic activity in this action/disaster film about a volcano that erupts over a small mountainside village. There is a love interest, of course, but the plot really doesn't have much time to develop before the eruption happens and we're off to the races with special effects. Technically, it's a great feat, and the cinematography is great, but the story isn't much of a story. Sadly, with a year packed with disaster films, the concept gets a little tired after a while. Absolute Power B+ 2/21/1997 8pm Secaucus Clint Eastwood stars as a thief who happens to witness the president being involved in the murder of his mistress, and the following coverup by his loyal staff. This leads into an odd mystery and crime drama as he finds himself wanting the president to be exposed, but he doesn't want to be caught for the thieving he was doing that night. In addition to this, he struggles with his relationship with his estranged daughter. The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition) A 2/25/1997 7:30pm Secacus In this remastering of a science fantasy classic, we are treated to enhanced sound and special effects, a longer fight scene with Luke and the snow monster, several new scenes and background images of Bespin, and a couple other treats. What's really interesting is how several walls which were formerly white and blank have now turned into windows looking out amongst the towers of Bespin.
