Broken Arrow A- 2/9/96 6:45pm Secaucus John Travolta plays a stealth bomber pilot that turns renagade in an attempt to steal the nuclear warheads on board and use them to hold a major american city hostage. His co-pilot, played by Christian Slater, sets out to stop him. This is action-packed from the word go, which is to be expected because it is a John Woo film. This flick will keep you on the edge of your seats, and Slater is lovable as ever. Across the Sea of Time A 2/10/96 8pm Lincoln Square This was an absolutely stunning IMAX 3D movie. I usually don't see the 3D effects very well but the technology that they used really made quite a difference. The headsets, however, are kinda heavy and you really feel the weight after 45 minutes. This movie is about a boy from Russia who comes to NYC to seek his roots. An ancestor of his came to NYC in the early 1900's and made a living making stereograms. The movie then uses this to take the liberty of showing the reproduced stereograms from 75+ years ago, compared against the New York of today. The before and after effect is magnificent, and the framework of the heart-touching story of a boy searching for his family works well, too. Heat A+ 2/17/96 7pm Secaucus Michael Mann (Miami Vice) directs this awesome crime drama that pits Al Pacino against Robert DeNiro. Pacino leads a crack team of detectives on the LAPD that working a string of bank robberies. DeNiro leads a team of bank robbers (including Val Kilmer) who are the best at what they do. This movie has some awesome chase scenes and one of the nastiest shootouts I have ever seen. An excellent cast with excellent direction, this movie makes me yearn for the days when Miami Vice was still on TV. Happy Gilmore A- 2/23/96 7:45pm Secaucus This is a hilarious movie about a failing hockey player wannabe that turns his energies over to golf, where his unconventional golf swing can take a ball over 400 yards. The best part is where he gets into a fist fight with Bob Barker. The cameo appearances of Lee Trevino are also very cute.
