Summary: An instant classic sci-fi tale.
Reeves plays a very interesting role where he discovers that the world he lives in is not actually real; that the real world was destroyed long ago, and this is all a massive computer simulation. Fishburne plays the wise old teacher who introduces him to the wonders of the real world outside the simulation, and how to control the simulation. This of course leads to awesome fight scenes with the bad guys, and some of the best shootouts and martial arts combat I've ever seen.

Summary: Ultimate geek fantasy movie, except it's actually good
This movie was practically issued with dvd players that were bought in the late 1990s. It has almost every non-sexual geek fantasy ever conceived of packed into one movie, but done well. It manages to raise the bar for on-screen gunfights and martial arts in the same movie, which is very rare. This movie became so much of a meme that it was endlessly copied and even parodied (Charlie's Angels) for the next several years. I give it an A instead of an A+ solely because a little too much of the 'wow' factor of the movie comes from the effects rather than the plot.

Summary: Breathtaking effects, backed up by breathtaking concepts
Yeah yeah I had to take my suspension-of-disbelief supplements the morning I went to the theater to keep the dialog from burning out my cheesy-meter, but the rest of the movie was good enough to make it fly. When you come out of the theater, you'll know you've seen a movie that will be talked about for a long long time to come.

I liked this movie. I saw it twice. I got a copy of it at home. It's fun. The costumes and production design are great. I'm willing to forgive the human battery thing for the gorgeous glorification of automatic weapons and pummeling.

Summary: The Greatest Story Ever Told
This is without a doubt the most interesting retelling of the New Testament that I've ever seen. The allegory is laid on extra thick, and frosted with tasty layers of special effects and wire fighting. Keanu provides the perfect vacuous reading for the Christ role, and Larry Fishburne, well, he just looks cool in those little clip-on sunglasses. The DVD is excellent, go buy it.

Summary: Something for everyone
Are you feeling philosophical, pondering the meaning of existence itself? Maybe you're feeling bored and want a quick adrenaline rush. Perhaps it's time to look closely at how some scenes are put together, marveling at the effects and camera work. Looking for some loud, headbanging tunes? In any of these situations, and even more, The Matrix is just the right movie for you. It is an incredible combination of martial arts, philosophy, characterization, and even music. I watched it at least 6 times in various theatres. The Matrix the first DVD I bought, and in fact the first movie ever that I owned personally. See it again and again.

Summary: It's perfect sci-fi/cyber/live action anime/what have you
Ultimate villains, snazzy superheroes, hot babe, great costumes, perfect music, lots of guns, and even has good dialogue. Don't try to think about the 'holes' in the story, just enjoy it.

Summary: I have seen this so many times!
And it never gets old. Action scenes that were fresh and exciting. A compelling story line. These actors obviously worked very hard to learn their martial arts scenes. Impressive. And Keanu wasn't so bad either.

Summary: Will stand the test of time -- A
This is the smartest action-movie I've seen in recent memory. What struck me the most was how it dealt with the issue of free-will vs. determinism. The oracle tells Neo he is not the one, and at the moment, he is not and may never be. What she tells him is true, until he escapes her logic via free will, by choosing to become. The Matrix is filled with such thoughtful, right-headed touches, as if the kung-fu weren't enough. A real pleasure.

Summary: Mega fighto and great film
This is the classic that spawned a couple of horrible sequals. A sci-fi, kung-fu movie with lots and lots of guns and amazing special effects. The cinematics are incredible and created an entire category of filmmaking. Come to think of it, "Matrix" has even become part of popular vernacular at this point (A matrix style slow-motion replay). The story itself is great. Highly recommended.
