The first Captain America movie was necessarily set during World War II, so bringing him into the current era has some inherent awkwardness to it. However, they handled it very well without really overdoing it, with just enough references to it to be amusing without being annoying. At the same time, Marvel did a good job of making this be an important movie in the MCU, with the most implications for the shared universe from any movie not named Avengers. As previously mentioned, this movie completely changed the tone of the associated TV show, Agents of SHIELD, but in an appropriate way that gave the TV show more focus. Black Widow has a major role (even bigger than her role in Iron Man 2), but we don't really see anyone else other than Nick Fury. |
