Summary: A pretty nifty ripoff of the Indiana Jones genre.
Great special effects and an excellent cast as well as great direction make for a blockbuster event, and I expect The Mummy to do very well, even though it will have to compete against Star Wars in a couple weeks. I loved seeing the half-naked queen in the beginning; her outfit was a loose black net that revealed her nipples. Closer inspection reveals this to be painted on! Sadly we don't get to see her past the opening, as the rest of the film is rather chaste. There's lots of gunfights and our hero is superbly macho; we may have the next Indiana Jones on our hands. Okay, maybe he's not quite as good as Harrison Ford, but he did very well anyway. What got me though was the bugs. I hate bugs, beetles, etc. The film was filmed with them. I hate being grossed out. Bleah.

Summary: one (1) hoot
Actually, I had a blast watching this. I didn't find it THAT Indy-like -- although obviously I can see the comparison -- but I enjoyed it on a different level (less clever, more sfx, something like that). Anyway, it was fun, Brandon was surprisingly good as an action hero, the babe was a brainy babe, and there was a mysterious helper who seemed to be an SCA person or something. It's all good. I'd own it, but it's not top of my list to buy.

Summary: Better than I expected
I was expecting something awful, but by planting its tongue firmly in its cheek this movie managed to entertain me. Mostly solid, with a couple of hilarious moments. I'd consider seeing it again... for free.

Summary: nicely done
I didn't expect much from this movie but I ended up enjoying it. My reaction was similar for the recent Zorro movie with Banderas - didn't expect much, got a lot more and enjoyed it. This isn't a classic or anything, just a nicely put together movie.

Summary: IM HO TEP IM HO TEP
I liked it! It's easy to compare this movie to Raiders of the Lost Ark, but unfair, since The Mummy is a fine film in its own right. It's not on as grand a scale as Raiders, but close, and it has good action, fine effects, a strong plot and script, and generally is well-put-together.

Summary: Nicely done
A slightly too rushed adventure flick in the spirit of Indiana Jones, The Mummy provides entertainment for those of us who don't want to spend too much time thinking about what's happening on screen. The special effects are stunning, even on a small screen.

They're apparently working on a sequel to this, and I'll probably go see that one in the theater.

Summary: Amusing action flick if you don't expect much going in
Basically take Indiana Jones, add in some extra comedy and take the edge off of it, and you have The Mummy. I give it an A- primarily because it has a lot of entertainment value for being such a fluff piece.
