Summary: Non stop kick ass incredibly well choreographed ACTION. In French!
Even if you've eschewed foreign films up to this point but you really enjoy a good action flick you owe it to yourself to see this movie. Unlike the highly stylized fights and nearly bloodless shooting in the more recent Hollywood fare, this movie is downright brutal. It's the near future, and the French have walled off one of the worst housing developments in the city and surrounded it with police guard - District B-13. The fight scenes are incredibly acrobatic (my girlfriend was reminded of The Matrix but I found the style very distinctly less poser-ish than that, only a couple of instances where you could KIND of point and say 'Bullet Time'). In some of the opening scenes we see our protagonist fleeing from pursuit, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, executing incredible gymnastics in the process. Oh, and this flick has a story too. A good one even. It's not War and Peace but as action films go I found it to be quite compelling. Two solid thumbs and a prehensile tail up for this movie.
