Summary: A lot better than Kill Bill Vol. 2
This movie's chapter are connected with a story but each story is a distinct style, with different tributes to hollywood classics. Each chapter's is so radically differnet than the next that this movie seems like more of a collection of short stories than anything. Still, it's really great.

Summary: A part one that is also a good movie in its own right
Uma Thurman kicking ass, Lucy Liu doing same, Tarantino's gritty surrealness, what's not to like about this movie other than having to wait for Vol. 2?

Summary: Pointless Nihilism. Good fights though.
I should like this movie. It's got great fight choreography, actors who really had to work to make the stunts look good, and a vicious sense of humor. I loathed it instead. The two things I require from a Tarantino flick are great dialogue, which was almost entirely lacking, and a really cool execution on the central premise. Pulp Fiction succeeded with both, and it managed to have a moral center as well. Kill Bill is entirely lacking in morality. The only other movie I've ever seen with this body count and comparable gore level was an old Hong Kong film titled 'Operation Wolf'. The dialogue was better (including the bad subtitles), and frankly I cared about the burned out and extremely stereotypical ex-US Army hippie drug addict and his harem living in the middle of the jungle than anyone in Kill Bill. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I'd like even my violent movies to have a little bit more of a moral center to them.
