Summary: James Bond replaced by star of Xtreme Sports
Don't get me wrong, Vin Diesel is great in this, he really performs well and I love his movies. This movie has all the makings of excellence-- great stunts, special effects, lots of beating up the bad guys, unbelieveable stunts, spy toys, and more. Unfortunately the move falls short of perfect for me by being so focused on "Xtreme Sports" stuff. If they hadn't tried to ride the coattails of the Xtreme Games, they would have had a decent contender to the aging James Bond franchise. Almost, but no cigar guys.
The movie is a blast nonetheless-- go see it! |

In this movie you know Vin Diesel was type casted due to his performance in "The Fast And The Furious". I felt XXX didn't meet Vin Diesel's capability as an independant actor. Yes! "unbelievable stunts" is the keyword. In my personal opinion I thought the movie was way too structured and the stunts were extremely computerized. In other words ..the stunts were absolutely FAKE! The movie was expensive to make but did not meet my expectations as a viewer. It's a one time movie and I think it shouldn't be compared to James Bond. |

Summary: Good James Bond-alike
The premise of the movie is 'can you replace James Bond with an action stunt guy?' Well, with some modifications to the standard secret agent script, the answer is yes. Even though Vin Diesel looks and acts like Dave Attell's evil twin, he plays the role very well. And Samuel L. Jackson kicks ass in every role he plays, which only helps. Overall, not a perfect movie, but a good fun one. |

Summary: Special effects? check. Plot full of holes? check. amusing eye candy? Check.
XXX was an amusing thrill ride of special effects and not much else. I felt they were trying to update the James Bond industry with a tough talking fast walking smooth operator in Vin Diesel..but failed. I like Vin Diesel, he is an interesting actor (even if he always plays the same basic role), and I enjoy watching him. That being said, I thought XXX was kind of a disappointment. It wasn't even super great eye candy (special effect-wise). Maybe I'd have felt differently if I saw it on the big screen though. |
